Mental Disorder Exhibition

August 21th, 2017
At the very beginning of my personal project, I was required to choose a topic in which I'm doing to be working on and presenting within the next few months. As I was thinking about what project I'd like to present relating it within my personal interest and how I'd be able to interact with the community.

Drawing or computer programming, psychology (Mental issues).

Topics connected to subject specific knowledge
Art, scultures, animating, technology, psychology.

What will expand your learning beyond the school walls?
Research, practicing at drawing, getting ideas from other works from important people such as Pablo Picasso, Edvard Munch, Paul Gauguin, etc. Knowing why they chose to paint their artwork, getting to know about their lives, getting inspired by other artists with mental illnesses.

September 4th, 2017Start developing ideas with a proposal form of the personal project making sure which project I’m willing to present. This led me to get a clear idea on how I'm going to spend doing my personal project, all the required materials, and mainly get an idea of the purpose of realizing my project.

September 11th - 25th, 2017: After having a clear definition of my goal and a global context related to my project, I made a plan on what I'm going to be researching about to have more knowledge about the different types of mental disorders.

Look at some of the rubrics at “rubistar.4teachers.org” related to my personal project (Art, art exhibition, art process journal) that could help me guide myself making my project succesul following each criteria from the website. This’ll guide me to start sketching what I’m going to draw and explain each drawing giving it a context.

Topic: Make a mental disorder exhibition
Question: How can art develop a connection to the audience within mental disorders?
Global Context: Personal and cultural expression
Goal: My goal is to learn how to connect feelings through a drawing, have a relevant information about several mental disorders and its importance of why it's a problem we have to take into account. Starting to sketch and adding an appropriate definition to each drawing for people to understand that they can still be given hope and prevent any negative actions.

For my personal project, what I’d like to outcome is to inspire the audience and make them understand that it’s never the end of the world by making them understand each symptom of such mental disorder and making the audience attracted by the artwork having a connection through their feelings and mind.
To be able to demonstrate a high quality product, I'll have to fulfill the criteria that I’ve personally made, in which the artwork has to include a significant meaning and description of the mental disorder of the drawing.
To test my product, once few draft sketches are drawn, a survey will be taken by asking several people about the artwork.
A successful outcome would be to develop a drawing in which the audience will be able to actually have a connection throughout the artwork and for them trying to understand the purpose of the drawing by having getting inspired from such mental disorder drawing. On the other hand, an unsuccessful outcome would be to only draw without such a meaning or purpose of why the artwork was even made and losing its popularity by attracting nobody.
Specific vocabularies that need to be included are strong, emotional and interpretive ones in which can attract the audience’s attention when presenting the final product.
These specifications allow me to test out and evaluate my product within my global context (personal and cultural expression) as I’ll be trying on using my terminology, creativity and in a way in which I can express my feelings towards others connected to my goal, which it’s to make them understand what each mental disorder drawing that’ll be realized represents.

To start with my personal project, I’ve started to progress by having an idea by brainstorming several options of what my project could be for the following months. I found difficult choosing which topic I’d like to present for my personal project which took me several days to decide. To overcome this, I chose a project that best benefits and relates me which was art and to help people who’re suffering from mental illnesses, as for this, my project is going to be an art exhibition of mental illnesses. I need to improve on increasing more my knowledge about the project I chose (mental issues).
For my project to be successful, I need support by havina good understanding of the difference between several mental illnesses that I’m going to be presenting which are anxiety, depression, stress and bipolar or flashback disorders. The IB attribute that I’ve shown so far is “reflective” because I was able to find out which personal project I desired to present and looks for solutions of what I’m going to be doing for my project to be successful. Finally I’ve developed “Self-management” ATL skills as I’m organizing a plan on how to do my project, being capable of how to improve my work and being aware of any errors to be made and finally seeking out for feedbacks.

As I finished my investigation and what my project is going to be, I've started to develop a plan on how my product is going to be done. Resources I need to develop my product are simple tools to draw, which are a pencil, eraser, sharpener and block art papers. My product isn't going to be using much tools, instead, they're simply going to be drawn and textured (shadows, colored, etc) with pencil only. The major step that I need to take to complete my product is to not just to draw, but to add details and textures to make them more entertaining with a sheet where it describes the piece related to such mental disorder. To complete each piece that's going to be represented of the mental disorders that are going to be developed, which are around 3 to 4 pieces, for every step in each piece would take approximately 1-2 days as for planning and taking action within the product.
My plan is logical, but rarely feasible since the product can be developed, but it has to be planned in a sort of way in which it'd entertain the audience as for with the description and the artwork.
I researched for some examples within what I could draw to develop my project, artists with mental disorders and the whole definition of what mental disorder and its symptoms to create my plan. This would help me get a breif background on how I could take action within my plans by creating a succesful product that leads throughout my evaluation criteria. My plan allows me to develop my understanding of my Global Context, which is "Personal and cultural expression", creativity is shown through how the work is going to be developed and by trying to make them connect through the audience's feelings.

The research that was applied for my product was based mostly about the DSM V book talking about all necessary information such as meaning and symptoms of every mental disorder and different types of artworks made by famous artists with mental disorders. On the DSM V, it’s been decided to consult the resource in order to understand and have knowledge about all kinds of mental disorder that come into existence and the different types of possible symptoms within such disorder and its consequences. As for the artists, it helped out to have some ideas on why or how they managed to create such piece in order to get inspired and to make my own product by my own style related to the goals I sought for. A major problem was to understand the specific concept of how each one of the symptoms on the selected mental disorders (PTSD, depression and anxiety) sorted out, as in order to develop my product, I had to understand every detail about the mental disorders to be able to connect my piece through the audience’s feelings and mind. The solution made throughout this issue was to personally ask questions to experts and people who have peer knowledge about this topic and to develop obtaining extra information using other reliable sources. Afterwards, I created a survey of the artwork to hear out some audience’s opinion and get to know people’s actual experience, visual image and feelings throughout the piece. It resulted quite well being able to know their thoughts and what they actually felt about it, although, some errors were that they weren’t enough to fulfill a high criterion score. This motivated me to develop my product with a higher improvement as for it to connect through the audience’s and also to add some extra piece within the product such as a story for each artwork. My research and development of my product fitted with my Global Context as I can see through that it follows up with its description being creative and matching up with people’s feelings by extending ideas and values.
